This week, on Thursday, May 19th, USGE RVP and Chair of USGE’s Scholarship Committee, Jan Hauck, presented one of USGE’s Louise Pargeter scholarships to the mother of a scholarship recipient. Sarudzai Mashazhu, member of USGE Local 00089, was presented with the scholarship as well as with a USGE jacket, for her daughter Munashe Sithole.
The USGE National Executive established the Louise Pargeter Scholarships in remembrance and honour of our fallen sister. We remember Louise Pargeter, a USGE member who died on October 6, 2004, while performing her duties as a Community Parole officer in Yellowknife.
This scholarship fund was created to fund two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. For these scholarships, preference is given to applicants enrolling in the fields of study of psychology, criminology, sociology or social work degree. Scholarships are available to USGE members and their children, dependants, spouses and partners.
The committee assessed the applications based on the applicant’s response to the following prompt: “In your own words, please describe whether you believe that American Politics impact Canada’s economy.”
USGE congratulates Munashe Sithole and we wish her the best of luck in her future studies.
