Creation of USGE Structure Committee

During the Triennial Convention held in July of this year, Resolution #45 was endorsed by the voting delegates.

The resolution read:

WHEREAS the USGE National Office is running out of office space and a new location needs to be researched within the Ottawa area; and

WHEREAS USGE is looking to hire additional resources for the National Office but without a proper plan in place, hiring could be allocated in the wrong areas; and

WHEREAS traditionally, USGE has not looked at the number of locals or members per RVP within that portfolio, nor how the various geographic regions are assigned, or the varying workload by departments, to ascertain a proportionate representation of our members in all regions of the country; and

WHEREAS as a result of the CSC Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the RCMP Modernization Act, the USGE may receive an influx of 5,000+ members;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the National Executive immediately form a committee to select and hire a consulting firm to review and make recommendations to the National Executive by February 2012 (or September 2012) as to the geographic location of the National Office; the make-up of the National Office and the proper representation for members; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the cost of the consulting firm be taken from existing surplus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT any recommendations adopted by the National Executive, be submitted to the USGE Triennial Convention in 2014 for endorsement.

The Committee is composed of members from the National Executive and staff members from the National Office in order to accomplish the work on making USGE a more vibrant, responsive and cohesive Union. Members of the Committee are:

The Committee met briefly on September 23, while in Ottawa to set up next steps. They will be meeting again on December 6 and 8, 2011 in Ottawa. Your input is important to ensure that all requests and ideas can be contained within the Request For Proposal (RFP). Don’t be shy, this is your opportunity to have a say. If you have an idea, please feel free to share it with your own respective RVP or one of the Committee members. We want the end result to be what you the membership want, so please take some time to consider the future of USGE.

All input should be received no later than December 1, 2011.
