In Budget 2023, the Government of Canada committed to reducing spending by $14.1 billion over the next five years, starting in 2023-24, and by $4.1 billion annually after that. This will affect nearly every department and agency.
With the Federal Budget Cuts in full swing, USJE has already heard from many about the real-life impact that these cuts are having in the workplace. Since we know the cuts are likely only going to get deeper, USJE is looking to you to provide us with detailed information on the changes you are seeing to your workplace and your workload by completing this form.
While we are in our initial fact-gathering stage, we know that a mandate to cut budgets will inevitably lead to job losses (either through attrition or otherwise) and to a significant increase in workload for those who are still standing. Now, more than ever, it is important for all members to be vigilant of the changes in their workload:
(1) keep a list of your priorities/duties;
(2) monitor for any uptick in such priorities/duties;
(3) be mindful of new priorities/duties that are being added to your workload;
(4) proactively seek to meet with your manager/supervisor to outline the evolution of your workload and ask that they (on behalf of the Employer) prioritize your duties;
(5) confirm your employer’s prioritization in writing; and
(6) keep a written record of any such discussions with your manager/supervisor.
