On August 21, the second of a three-day tour of Ontario RCMP workplaces, President David Neufeld, RVP Bella Skalin and members of the USJE communications team met with members who work at the Newmarket Detachment. The USJE team were greeted by Officer in Charge Inspector Tim Dell’Anna.
Over 25 members took part in the union’s lunch hour meeting. RVP Skalin reiterated the importance of hybrid work and the importance of the employer in demonstrating flexibility with a nuanced approach. She also reminded members about USJE’s upcoming regional bargaining training sessions and that members can submit bargaining demands for the next round of bargaining.
President Neufeld then explained the distinctive roles between USJE and PSAC. He spoke about USJE’s National RCMP Campaign and emphasized the importance of member participation. USJE’s RCMP Campaign is meant to celebrate the work that our members do for the RCMP behind the scenes. He also spoke about the bargaining process—how bargaining works, timelines, and what to expect for this round of bargaining. Finally, he provided an update on USJE’s presumptive injury campaign.
With the ear of leadership, members took the opportunity to discuss job classification, mainly of members in the CR category.
Five members shared their stories to be part of USJE’s National RCMP campaign.
USJE would like to thank Line Paquet of the Labour Relations team as well as USJE Local President Tracy Coates, and local executive members Ian Reodica, Tamara Colantonio and Kelly Sercombe who facilitated this meeting and provided a tour of the facilities.
