September 18 – RVP Carol Osborne met with Local 60146 at the Parole Board of Canada Office in Moncton, NB for the Local’s AGM. RVP Osborne met with the Local President Marc Bélanger and members in the office. Additional members joined the meeting virtually.
An update was given on the Return to Office Mandate from Treasury Board and the efforts USJE and the PSAC are deploying with the national campaign to “Scrap the mandate!”. RVP Osborne expressed her appreciation for the Local members who attended the RTO Information Picket before summer, when 2/3 of the membership attended in the morning before their scheduled working hours. This is an unprecedented level of engagement that did not go unnoticed by USJE National. RVP Osborne relayed the appreciation of the USJE leadership to the members on their courage and commitment.
RVP Osborne also spoke on the Presumptive Injury Campaign and the importance of Bill C-357. She encouraged members to meet with their Members of Parliament to inform them of this campaign. She also had the renewed chance to display the new Occupational Stress Injury Awareness pin and spoke of the upcoming Parliament Hill USJE event for World Mental Health Day on October 10th.
Lastly, RVP Osborne explained the Bargaining process and the importance for members to submit demands with the upcoming Bargaining Training and Conference in October. RVP Osborne advised the members of the demands that she herself submitted that would impact the PBC members specifically. Preparing for the Bargaining process is a substantial effort and being able to answer questions from members directly is an exercise that benefits everyone.
At the end of the meeting, there were questions regarding the past Strike and the process moving forward. It was reiterated that the participation of all members, whether they are deemed essential or walking the picket line, is essential to boost moral and sustain the strike action.
