The Union of Solicitor General Employees and its over 15,000 members vehemently condemn the vicious acts of racism, hatred and violence perpetrated by Nazi and white supremacist groups in Charlottesville Virginia over the past weekend. We stand in solidarity with those who directly challenged these groups and offer our sincere condolences to the family of Heather Heyer who lost her life while standing up to the racist violence.
With the recent and growing number of racially motivated acts in Canada along with the amplified presence of some Canadian white nationalist groups, we realize that similar elements exist and operate in our own backyard. Canada must strive to address all forms of institutional racism that can facilitate the growth and prominence of extreme views and actions.
In order to stop the advance of these alarming and dangerous trends at home, USGE encourages all of its members to stand up against white supremacy and racism, in our workplaces, communities, and wherever it may appear.
Along with our allies in the struggle for social justice and equity, we will continue to speak out against and confront racism in all of its forms.
