On July 26, National President David Neufeld, RVP Zoe Johnston and members of the Communications team completed their tour of RCMP sites in British Columbia with a visit to the forensic labs at E Division Headquarters and a meeting with E Division Commanding Officer, Dwayne McDonald.
To begin the morning, Manager Mike Rosland provided an accelerated tour of the RCMP labs—which is one of only three locations across Canada (the other two in Ottawa and Edmonton). The USJE team learned about the work done in the biology, toxicology, and firearms labs and how the labs support police agencies not just in BC, but across Canada. USJE members work in various capacities within the labs, in roles such as Forensic Analysts, firearms specialists, and administrative support.
Following the tour, President Neufeld and RVP Johnston met with E Division Commanding Officer, Dwayne McDonald and Superintendent Gregory Leong from Public Service Labour Relations. They discussed the RCMP Campaign, Presumptive Injury and changes to GECA, and other issues facing workers in BC and the Yukon. USJE Leadership appreciates CO McDonald and Supt. Leong for taking the time to meet.
Overall, the USJE delegation had a very successful and positive week meeting with members across all the RCMP sites visited. Thank you to the more than 25 members who participated in RCMP Campaign interviews, and to all the members who spoke with President Neufeld and RVP Johnston about their work.
USJE extends a special thank you to the RCMP Labour Relations team, who helped facilitate this week’s site visits and kept the team on schedule.
USJE will be returning to BC in November to visit RCMP sites on Vancouver Island—details to come.
