November 7th, 2024 – National President David Neufeld and Regional Vice-President Zoe Johnston visited the RCMP Forensics Laboratory at E Division in Surrey, British Columbia. PSAC negotiator Pierre-Samuel Proulx (from the Negotiations and Program Branch in Ottawa) attended the meeting virtually, to bring collective bargaining updates and to answer questions regarding the collective bargaining process.
The Pacific Region, which is comprised of both British Columbia (BC) and the Yukon (YT), has 138 CMs, with the majority located within BC, equates to over 20% of the CMs that are represented in USJE. A total of 14 CMs attended in person and 4 attended virtually.
National President Neufeld provided the Civilian Members with an outline of the PSAC and USJE and described how the union is positioned to advocate and represent Civilian Members across the country. He identified how the deeming process has been put on hold and explained the efforts that PSAC/USJE are making to protect the key working provisions for CMs.
The meeting participants were encouraged to submit new bargaining demands to the PSAC by the deadline of November 15th, 2024, and were encouraged to spread the word to other CMs to do the same. RVP Johnston discussed the importance of CMs becoming involved within the Union and reminded the CMs of Commissioner Mike Duheme’s recent announcement on the RCMP internal web platform, that all CMs should now register and sign their prospective Union Cards, especially now that CMs are unionized, pay union dues and are in bargaining discussions. RVP Johnston also identified that she is available to assist with this process and to answer any questions that members may have. Pierre-Samuel Proulx encourages CMs to reach out to the CM Bargaining Committee, as they want to hear from you! You can email them directly at CM-INFO-MC@psac-afpc.com and you can share your ideas with us at: https://psacunion.ca/proposal-collective-bargaining RCMP Civilian Members: Tell us how to improve your next contract – USJE.
It is important to note that PSAC/USJE has already heard from over 250 Civilian Members earlier this year through a CM survey on bargaining demands and virtual townhall meetings held in April 2024. USJE remains committed to staying connected with CMs across the country and we encourage CMs to join their Local Executives.
President Neufeld and RVP Johnston would like to thank RCMP E Division, and Mike Rosland for providing the time and space to meet with the CMs. This collaboration is very much appreciated.
