Stephenville, NL – Following a donation from the Union of Safety and Justice Employees (USJE), the Stephenville Kippens and Port au Port Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) has purchased an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that will provide critical infrastructure support to the search and rescue team while performing their duties. The Search and Rescue is a non-profit organization comprised of trained volunteers that has been in continuous operation for 42 years, providing critical support to a population spread out among mostly rural and remote locations.
The ATV will be used for both search and rescue operations as well as training. Due to a larger frame and higher capacity motor, this ATV will allow GSAR to reach more remote locations and undertake more complex rescues.
Natasha Drover, USJE member and resident of Conception Bay South, nominated the Search and Rescue for the donation from USJE’s Community Investment Initiative. This initiative is dedicated to improving public safety in neighbourhoods and supporting local projects across Canada.
