During Alberta tour, USJE-PSAC highlight threats to RCMP jobs and connect with local leaders

USJE and PSAC leadership continued their tour of the Edmonton area on August 13 with visits to Elk Point, Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona/Sherwood Park detachments.

To begin the day, the delegation met with the USJE member working on site at the Elk Point RCMP Detachment. The team had a dynamic conversation on the critical role of the RCMP in the community. The team then met with a USJE member outside the workplace to provide them with material for the Albertans For RCMP campaign.

The afternoon consisted of visiting the Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona /Sherwood Park Detachments. At Fort Saskatchewan, two USJE members participated in the Serving Together campaign and were pleased to hear that the Union is campaigning to protect jobs at the RCMP in Alberta.

At the Sherwood Park Detachment, four members were in attendance and listened attentively to the presentation. A majority of the employees were recent hires and it was a great opportunity to introduce them to the union.

In the evening, the team had dinner with volunteer executive members of Local 30010, Isabel Betancourt, Jesse Meldrum, Melissa James-McNutt, Greta Gutierrez, and Bryan Morlidge. USJE applauds the involvement of these members, and recognizes their importance to ensuring USJE can function effectively and advocate on behalf of its members.

USJE also thanks all our members working at these sites who participated in the Serving Together campaign by sharing the work they do for the RCMP.
