On March 19, the USJE delegation continued their tour of RCMP worksites in Manitoba as part of the Serving Together campaign.
The first stop of the day was the Minnedosa detachment, which houses Westman Traffic Services and Minnedosa municipal policing. The two USJE members and one municipal employee greeted the delegation with typical Manitoba hospitality. A tour of the detachment and traffic services was provided. It’s important to note that the area covered by Westman Traffic Services spans from Portage la Prairie in the east, the United States border to the south, West to the Saskatchewan border and north to Overflow River—a massive area hundreds of kilometres from end to end. Many thanks to Hannah for participating in the Serving Together campaign by explaining the important role played by USJE members who perform the duties of Traffic Services Assistants.
Next stop was Wasagaming, where the detachment sits within Riding Mountain National Park—a unique location for the RCMP, considering the park has its own enforcement. The lone DSA who works at the detachment provided a tour and history of the facility. We would like to thank Karen for sharing her experience as a DSA and how she contributes to the RCMP’s operational backbone.
The group continued north to the detachment in Dauphin, which also includes the Manitoba West District offices. USJE members provided a complete tour of the building after a quick introduction and chat with the delegation. USJE was able to speak and conduct interviews with eight members—including two DSAs visiting from Virden for the day—for the Serving Together campaign.
USJE would like to thank the USJE members who shared their personal experiences as employees of the RCMP both informally and those that will be part of USJE’s national RCMP campaign. Approved by the RCMP’s National Labour Relations team, the campaign aims to bring awareness about the unique roles and work done by our members. RCMP public servants and CMs can participate by reaching out to the USJE Communications team at USJEcommunicationSESJ@psac-afpc.com.
USJE will be visiting Sainte Rose du Lac and Gimli for the final two campaign site visits on March 20.
