Standing in Solidarity with Striking Bank of Canada Security Guards

USJE National President David Neufeld joined NCR Regional Vice-Presidents JP Surette and Sonia O’Brien-Colterman on the Bank of Canada picket line today to serve lunch and show solidarity with security guards who are currently on strike.

This visit was an opportunity to connect directly from those on the picket line, hear about their experiences, and demonstrate USJE’s ongoing commitment to supporting workers in their fight for a fair collective agreement. The lunch served including hot dogs, veggie burgers, butter tarts, and other refreshments was made possible through contributions from the RVPs’ budget, along with support from USJE local 70005.

Adding to the show of solidarity, Elaine Lowe and Christina Machado from USJE Local 70005 delivered 35 grocery store gift cards valued at $25 each for distribution to members on strike. Their gift cards were warmly received and provided a tangible reminder that union members across the public service stand behind these workers during a difficult period.

The visit came at a significant moment in the labour dispute. The Canada Industrial Relations Board recently ordered the Bank of Canada to stop using replacement workers during the strike. The decision represents an important victory for the striking security guards and reinforces the protections afforded to workers exercising their right to strike.

USJE remains proud to stand alongside the striking Bank of Canada security guards. We thank everyone who contributed to the lunch and gift card initiative, and we look forward to a fair resolution that recognizes the important work these members perform every day.
