Saturday morning, during the community day for detainees, USJE members were on hand in front of the Federal Training Centre in Laval to make visitors aware of the concerning status of collective bargaining and the possibility of a strike in the near future.
This activity was also intended to shed light on the very real consequences of job cuts that affect our members’ workplaces. With staff reductions, employees have to take on increasingly heavy workloads in order to maintain services and operations. This situation puts increasing pressure on staff and raises concerns as to how long the services provided can continue.
To these challenges we can add a wage offer of only 0.5%, a proposal that doesn’t take into account the increased cost of living, the responsibilities taken on every day by workers or the additional efforts required due to understaffing.
During the morning, at the entrance to the Establishment ?? members invited visitors to contact their MP to express their concerns about the status of negotiations and the repercussions that a future labour conflict could have on public services.
Fewer staff members, an increased workload and an insufficient wage offer are not a sustainable solution. Workers deserve more.
