Day 3 of MB RCMP Site Visits: Portage la Prairie, Souris and Brandon Detachments

On Wednesday, March 18, the USJE delegation continued their tour of RCMP workplaces in Manitoba to meet with members and promote the Serving Together campaign.

The day began with a morning stop at the Portage la Prairie Detachment. USJE elected officials and communications staff members were welcomed to the detachment with open arms. Unique to this detachment is the fact that DSAs are supervised by a public service employee rather than a Commander. Thank you to Annette Aquin, Jennifer Barron and Cheryl Young for their hospitality and special thanks for sharing experiences as RCMP employees and the operational backbone of the organization.

To begin the afternoon, the team made a stop at the Souris detachment where they were greeted by the sole DSA that works out of the detachment. USJE would like to thank Stella Akomolafe for the heartwarming welcome, for providing a tour of the detachment and participating in the Serving Together campaign.

The last stop of the day was the Brandon detachment. Brandon, MB has its own municipal police force, so the RCMP detachment services the surrounding rural areas exclusively. The detachment DSAs provide service to Brandon, Souris and Carberry, often travelling between each detachment.

USJE would like to thank the USJE members who shared their personal experiences as employees of the RCMP both informally and those that will be part of USJE’s national RCMP campaign. Approved by the RCMP’s National Labour Relations team, the campaign aims to bring awareness about the unique roles and work done by our members. RCMP public servants and CMs can participate by reaching out to the USJE Communications team at USJEcommunicationSESJ@psac-afpc.com.

USJE heads north on Thursday, with site visits scheduled at Minnedosa, Wasagaming and Dauphin.
