Re: Members rally & labour solidarity
On the morning of October 21, 2014, at around 6:15, an information picket was held on the route leading to the Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines prison complex. The operation was notably carried out by Local 10036 and by the PIPSC Local. USGE and PIPSC members of the three penitentiaries lent a hand to the executive committees of both Locals.
The information picket was designed to inform members concerning the employer’s attacks against the current insurance regime and sick leave benefits. Surgical masks were distributed to USGE and PIPSC members. The masks were worn all day by the vast majority of members, symbolizing the employer’s demand that public service employees show up sick to work.
The information picket continued until 8:15.
At lunch time, PIPSC and USGE members of the Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines prison complex were invited to the monthly “19” gathering. To maximize attendance, the meeting was to be held on October 21 instead of 19. Despite 2 degrees Celsius weather, nearly one hundred members showed up to enjoy coffee, desserts and a briefing.
Let us recall that a union coalition was formed between USGE and PIPSC at the Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines prison complex. Other joint actions are being planned.
Our union greetings,
USGE Local 10036
