Local President and Equity Committee member Satinder Bains talks to Regina—Qu’Appelle Conservative MP Andrew Scheer about inflation and collective bargaining

Local 40002 President Satinder Bains met with MP and former federal Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer (Regina—Qu’Appelle, SK) on June 3 to discuss how the struggling economy and rapidly rising inflation are impacting union members and making it imperative that current collective bargaining bring improved conditions for USJE and PSAC members.

Satinder, who is also a member of the USJE Equity Committee, and MP Scheer had an informative and positive discussion in Emerald Park, a small community just east of Regina. They spoke at length about collective bargaining, fair wages, privatization and the contracting out of members’ jobs, all issues Satinder is working on as a representative on the SV bargaining team.

Scheer indicated he supported members fighting on these issues, and he and Satinder plan to have a follow-up discussion in the near future.

Long-time USJE member and union activist Satinder, a Power Engineer at the RCMP Depot Division in Regina, is on the bargaining team for the SV Group of workers responsible for the operation of federal buildings and services. The SV bargaining team is fighting the employer on several fronts, including a fair wage package, an increase in access to professional development, and against the employer’s push that variable overtime be changed to time and a half from the current time and three quarters.
