Québec Summit on Public Safety

From May 15 to 17, 2025, National President David Neufeld and QC Regional Vice-President Patrick Ménard participated in the first Québec Summit on Public Safety organized by PSAC-Québec. Union representatives from various public safety organizations attended the event, in particular peace officers from Correctional Services, federal, municipal and provincial police officers, highway traffic control officers from Québec, Border Services officers, Fisheries and Oceans Canada officers, Parks Canada officers, etc.

Many issues shared by the various public safety officers and peace officers were brought up and discussed:

  • Need for a cultural shift with respect to workplace health and safety;
  • Prevention of psychological injuries in the workplace;
  • Issues concerning the digital world, social media and public perception;
  • Post-traumatic injuries;
  • Codes of ethics and the challenges of being a union representative;
  • A review of case law that affects peace officers closely;
  • The Saskatchewan Ruling and its impacts (Supreme Court of Canada);
  • The phenomenon of disengagement among peace officers;

One goal of the summit was to bring peace officers from various working environments together to collaborate better to defend their rights.
