RVP Sandelli and Local 50081 Organize Bargaining Rally at Winnipeg Parole Office

On June 24, USJE Local 50081, supported by Regional Vice President (RVP) Jeff Sandelli, held a rally to show support for the Bargaining Team in the face of aggression by the Treasury Board related to despicable bargaining tactics/offers, Workforce Adjustment and the Return to Office mandate.

In addition to the local members, the rally included participation from RVP Kirk McIntosh, USJE Local 50131 President, Kendra Charette, TC Bargaining Team Representative, Aaron Swerdlyk as well as members from Justice, Public Safety Canada and the Agriculture Union.

It was impressed upon the group that the current government is operating in a manner that is starkly similar to the depths of the Conservative government during the days of the Deficit Reduction Action Plan (DRAP). With the government seemingly acting with impunity, it has been steamrolling through environmental protections, failing to consult with indigenous peoples, making unyielding cuts to the public service and has shown no regard or respect for bargaining. When taken together, it becomes clear that we need to take heed of the proverbial sirens being sounded and take action before it’s too late!

The rally commenced outside the Winnipeg Parole Office and proceeded by way of a procession through downtown Winnipeg.  With flags waving and whistles blowing, the group received many friendly honks and greetings as they spread their message.

Local 50081 would like to challenge other USJE locals across the country to start holding rallies in their communities and further encourage them to extend invites to other PSAC members by way of their Regional Offices.

As bargaining continues across several tables, it is important that members stand together in support of fair wages, improved working conditions, and stronger protections for workers. Demonstrating your support to the bargaining team does make a difference!

Locals are encouraged to invite a bargaining team member to their next union event. Submit a request using the form on PSAC’s website. Your PSAC Regional Office will review your request and coordinate availability. Requests are not confirmed until you receive a response.
