USJE was proud to support a recent tour of Joyceville Institution in Kingston, organized for participants in the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference. The tour was led by Rick Sweetman, bargaining team member of the SV team and president of local 00039, and Kyle Grace, president of local 00099, who provided valuable insight into the work carried out by correctional staff and tradespeople.
The visit offered an important opportunity to showcase the critical role USJE members play in maintaining safe, secure, and well-functioning institutions. It also created a platform to raise key concerns impacting our members across the country.
During the tour, USJE representatives highlighted priorities including the Presumptive Injury Campaign, ongoing challenges with recruitment and retention for skilled trades, and the importance of achieving fair outcomes at the bargaining table. Rick Sweetman also provided participants with an update on ongoing bargaining with the Treasury Board, underscoring the need for meaningful progress for members.
USJE thanks Rick Sweetman and Kyle Grace for their leadership in ensuring our members’ voices were heard and for helping to strengthen awareness among Canada’s future leaders.
