It is with great sadness that USJE shares the following message from USJE Member Liz Drocholl regarding the passing of her partner, USJE Member and Pacific Institution Correctional Program Officer, Dan Drocholl. Our thoughts and prayers are with Liz and Dan’s family at this time.
Message from Liz Drocholl:
After a courageous battle with depression, the pain became unbearable and Dan took his life. He was on life support and he succumbed to his injuries late Tuesday night, January 19. It is my comfort to know he is in heaven with his Saviour.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). I feel it is very important to overcome the stigma of mental health and encourage others to talk about it. Dan’s life was cut short and there were a number of issues involved, including isolation from family due to COVID and issues with the medication he was prescribed. I encourage you to seek help and also support others. There are so many great resources like the CMHA, and EAP was a great help. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have spent many hours on the phone talking with the main help line who are also trained counsellors.
Dan was an organ donor and it helps to know this will help others. If you are not an organ donor, please consider it.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. We are going to wait until February to see how the restrictions are changed. More details will be provided later.
