On Sunday, September 27, 2026, members of USJE’s National Executive attended the 49th Annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
The memorial serves as a reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of police and peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while serving and protecting Canadians. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the risks faced every day by those who work in public safety and law enforcement roles.
This year’s ceremony added the names of five police officers and one correctional service officer. Family members gathered to honour and remember their loved ones, while hundreds of police and peace officers participated in the march to Parliament Hill ahead of the ceremony. In a tribute, police hats representing each of the fallen officers were carried into the memorial on pillows, symbolizing their service and sacrifice.
For USJE, this ceremony holds a special meaning. Many of our members work on the front lines of Canada’s safety and security system, often in challenging and hazardous environments. As we gathered to honor the fallen, we also remembered the contributions and sacrifices made by our own members who dedicated their lives to public service.
The memorial weekend also included the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Golf Tournament, held on September 26 in Carlsbad Springs, Ontario. Several members of the USJE National Executive, including President Neufeld, attended in support of the Memorial and its mission to honour fallen police and peace officers.
The National Executive was honoured to attend on behalf of USJE members across the country, standing in solidarity with families, colleagues and communities affected by loss. Their presence reflects USJE’s continued commitment to recognizing the service of those who protect Canadians and to advocating for safer workplaces for all members.
We remember. We honor. And we recommit ourselves to ensuring that those who serve Canadians can do so with the support and protections they deserve.
