On December 3, USJE National President David Neufeld and four of USJE’s Regional Vice-Presidents representing members from the Correctional Service of Canada (both Institution and Community) met with CSC Commissioner Anne Kelly and her colleagues for an in-person meeting for over two hours.
They discussed the significant concerns that Parole Officers continue to have about workload distribution tools and ensuring sufficient human resources to support the supervision and safe integration of federal offenders. A chronic lack of backfilling, constant policy changes, and staffing Community Parole Officers to the minimum were addressed.
The dialogue was an important opportunity for RVPs to speak to how systems and funding models could be improved to reduce the risk of occupational stress injury, and advance public safety outcomes.
