RVPs Lynette Robinson and Carol Osborne, along with some of their Local members attended the PSAC Atlantic Regional Health, Safety and Environment Conference from June 6-8, 2025, in Moncton, NB.
On Day 1, the conference began with a panel on “The Environment: A Political Issue” with Alex Cool – Fergus, Climate Action Network, Megan Mitton – MLA, Green Party NB and Andrea Peart – PSAC National H&S Officer.
On Day 2, in the morning, after the “State of the Union Address” from Sharon DeSousa – PSAC National President, there was a presentation on “What’s New and Evolving in Health and Safety” by Denis St. Jean – PSAC National H&S Officer, followed by a presentation on the “Canadian Centre of Occupational Health & Safety” by Matthew McLeod – Senior OHS Specialist.
In the afternoon, there was a session on the “Joint Learning Program for OHS Committees” with Marc Diotte – National Initiatives Director and Caroline Morais Gregan – JLP Facilitator. Delegates reviewed the Resolutions presented by the Atlantic Council Health & Safety Committee and Nancy MacLean – PSAC Regional H&S Representative. These resolutions have been submitted to the PSAC National H&S Conference which will be held from September 26-28, 2025, in Toronto, ON.
Day 2 ended with a session on “Men’s Mental Health”, which was a highlight of the conference. It is long overdue to end the stigma of men asking for assistance or even acknowledging that they may be struggling with mental health concerns. This was a presentation by some of the recent graduates of the Atlantic PSAC ULDP; Sarah Bolger – GSU, David Martin – UNDE and Eason Haskin – UNDE. Delegated were very engaged and appreciative of this presentation and ended with a standing ovation.
Finally on Day 3 there was a workshop on “Let’s Address the Climate Crisis” by Sharon Barbour – PSAC Regional Representative, with Closing Speaker being Chris DiLiberatore - REVP, PSAC Atlantic.
