On July 25, day 3 of USJE’s tour of RCMP sites in British Columbia, National President David Neufeld, RVP Zoe Johnston and members of the USJE Communications team visited USJE members at sites in Kelowna and Merritt.
The day began with a visit to the South East Division headquarters in Kelowna. Workers at the temporary site are eager to move into their permanent location, which is currently under renovation. President Neufeld introduced USJE’s national RCMP Campaign, and three members participated in interviews with the Communications team.
The team then headed around the corner to the South East Division Operational Call Centre (OCC) where all RCMP radio calls are routed for the entire region. Operations Commander and USJE member Tracey Arnold provided a tour of the facility, and explained the work done by radio dispatchers and administrative support staff. While USJE does not represent the dispatchers, the administrative support staff, who work to support the dispatchers in all aspects, are USJE members.
In the afternoon, the USJE representatives traveled to Merritt Detachment. Cindy Vlak provided a tour of the detachment, and both USJE members at the site graciously participated in RCMP campaign interviews.
President Neufeld and RVP Johnston were excited to speak with members at all sites and to learn about their work as the backbone of the RCMP. Thank you to all our members who took the time to chat with the team, and to RCMP Labour Relations representatives Wendy Harris and Manahil Imran who helped facilitate the site visits in Kelowna, Merritt, Hope and Kamloops.
