On the heels of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first federal budget, USJE is preparing for a major campaign to protect the jobs of federal public safety personnel.

Presumptive Injury
Many Public Safety Personnel are exposed to workplace trauma and aren’t currently included in presumptive injury definitions. USJE is seeking to change the federal government’s approach to Workers’ Compensation—so that USJE members responsible for federal public safety have access to the compensation they need and deserve.

Albertans for RCMP
The Alberta government is actively pursuing the potential replacement of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with an entirely new Provincial Police force.
If Alberta chooses to go down this path, this could result in a major disruption to policing services in the short term, and potential job losses for hundreds of RCMP Uniformed Officers—but also for the approximately 875 USJE public safety personnel who are employed by the RCMP throughout the province.

Food Services Officers (FOS)
USJE launched its National Food Services Officers Campaign in 2023, insisting that CSC fix broken equipment, provide training annually, ensure timely hiring and retention of FOS, and to pay staff accurately and on time.
Since the launch of its campaign, USJE has seen an increase in training offered by CSC to FOS members. However, critical issues remain.
