June 27 marks National PTSD Awareness Day, an annual occasion dedicated to raising awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a mental health condition that can be triggered following exposure to one or more traumatic events.
Throughout June, the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT) observes National PTSD Awareness Month to support first responders and other public safety personnel, while helping to reduce stigma and remind those affected that they are not alone.
This year, RVP Jeff Sandelli and members of Local 50081 held their membership meeting and commemorated the occasion by taking part in CIPSRT’s PTSD Awareness Month Photo campaign.
USJE represents public safety personnel across the country, who work in highly demanding and often stressful environments. Due to the nature of their work, many members face an increased risk of experiencing psychological injuries, including PTSD.
Through initiatives such as the Presumptive Injury Campaign, USJE continues to advocate for stronger workplace protections, improved access to support, and greater recognition of mental health injuries, to help ensure workers affected by these injuries receive the care they deserve.
