MONTREAL, QC – Members of the Union of Security and Justice Employees (USJE) will be distributing a leaflet to the membership this Thursday, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., to address the lack of concrete direction from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) to protect the health and safety of employees with respect to COVID-19.
Patrick Ménard, Regional Vice-President of the USJE, Quebec (CSC) explains the challenges faced by his members: “There is no regional directive, unfortunately, prevention is left in the hands of individual managers. There should be a clear and precise directive for all institutions in Quebec that advocates teleworking and other measures to prevent and spread of COVID-19, where possible, and reduce the footprint in institutions.”
Ménard added: “The provincial and federal governments are on the same page, so why a case-by-case approach in Correctional Service of Canada institutions? Front-line workers deserve better.”
