National President David Neufeld Meets with Local MP

On Tuesday, July 29th, National President David Neufeld met with the newly elected Member of Parliament for Elmwood/Transcona, Colin Reynolds (Conservative). President Neufeld scheduled the meeting with MP Reynolds in the riding to speak with him about the valuable work USJE members perform in the areas of Public Safety and Justice and to invite him to see first hand our members in their workplace.

President Neufeld shared concerns regarding the current federal budget cuts that are being planned by the Liberal government for most of the departments USJE represents and how they will impact public safety. President Neufeld provided information on USJE’s Presumptive Injury Campaign, RCMP Campaign and the Food Service Officer Campaign.

MP Reynolds shared about some of his personal experience working as a construction electrician for 20 years and how he felt it was important to get involved in his local union. President Neufeld and MP Reynolds discussed the value of unions and the role they play in the workplace. President Neufeld shared that USJE endeavors to connect with MPs across the country (across party lines) and to educate them on the role USJE members play in keeping Canadians safe.

MP Reynolds has accepted an invitation to conduct a site visit with President Neufeld in the near future and has expressed interest to attend USJE’s World Mental Health Day event on Parliament Hill on Wednesday, October 8th. President Neufeld wishes to thank MP Reynolds for the time he took to learn about USJE and his willingness to stay connected.
