USJE National President David Neufeld, RVP Valda Behrens and USJE members from across the North attended the PSAC North Regional Triennial Convention held in Whitehorse on May 28 – May 31, 2026, at the beautiful Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.

Many USJE members have come forward with concerns and questions regarding the release of these policy changes. They have also expressed significant concern about the impact these changes will have on their workload, given that there were no announced resources attached to the immediate implementation of new policy.
RVP Sandelli leads lunch and learn at Kelowna parole office
On May 27, Local 2A086 President, Colleen Desmaris and Regional Vice President (RVP), Jeff Sandelli, attended the Kelowna Area Parole Office to provide a lunch information session.
USJE pilot project supports communities across Canada
In fall 2025, the USJE Mobilization and Member Engagement committee launched a promotional pilot project in partnership with Sock Rocket involving the purchase of USJE-branded socks at a subsidized rate. The initiative gave locals and individual members an opportunity to engage directly by ordering and distributing more than 1,000 pairs of socks. In addition to securing a bulk discount, the project also included a donation component: for every regular purchase, Sock Rocket provided three additional pairs of socks to support community organizations.
USJE highlights key issues during Joyceville Institution tour
USJE was proud to support a recent tour of Joyceville Institution in Kingston, organized for participants in the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference. The tour was led by Rick Sweetman, bargaining team member of the SV team and president of local 00039, and Kyle Grace, president of local 00099, who provided valuable insight into the work carried out by correctional staff and tradespeople.
National day of mobilization on Workforce Adjustments: Standing together for public service workers
On May 28, USJE members across the country came together for a National Day of Mobilization in response to ongoing workforce adjustments (WFA). Taking place in multiple regions, these events represented a demonstration of solidarity at a time where many workers are facing uncertainty about their roles, their workplaces, and their futures.
