On April 20, Regional Vice Presidents (RVP) Zoe Johnston, Kirsty Havard and Jeff Sandelli met with New Democratic Party (NDP) Member of Parliament (MP) and Public Safety critic, Jenny Kwan at her office in Ottawa.

On April 28, workers across Canada mark the National Day of Mourning. We remember those who have been injured, made ill, or killed because of their work, and we recommit to fighting for the living.  

On April 23, 2026, National President David Neufeld and RVP Carol Osborne attended the annual general meeting (AGM) of USJE Local 70148 at the Parole Board of Canada National Office in the National Capital Region. RVP Laurie Ann Wesselby was also in attendance as an observer.

On April 20th, RVP Shauna Ward and National President David Neufeld met with Member of Parliament from Portage-Lisgar, Branden Leslie, in the West Block on Parliament Hill. MP Leslie had asked to meet with the USJE representatives after attending USJE’s Public Safety Awards in Ottawa on April 15th. RVP Ward had reached out to MP Leslie with a personal invitation to attend the prestigious Third Annual Public Safety Awards where seven USJE members received awards for their contributions to public safety in Canada.

On Wednesday, April 15, the Union of Safety and Justice Employees hosted its third Public Safety Awards ceremony on Parliament Hill featuring seven outstanding USJE members who work in a variety of capacities as Public Safety Personnel across the country.  

On the occasion of this 6th anniversary, USJE extends its sincere condolences to all those affected by the Portapique tragedy. We seek to continue to do our part to address gender based violence through our National Equity Committee, training of our union’s leadership and related efforts.  

At an awards ceremony on April 15, 2026, seven USJE members took centre stage in Ottawa to represent our union and the hard work our members accomplish.
