With looming threats to jobs at the RCMP in Alberta, USJE and PSAC Prairies have partnered to advocate for the RCMP and the jobs of all of our USJE members across the province.
On August 11, National President David Neufeld, RVP Valda Behrens, PSAC-Prairie Regional Executive Vice-President Marianne Hladun and Communications Director Sébastien Bezeau, began a week-long tour of worksites and meetings with local politicians in the Edmonton area. To kick off the tour, the team met with six members at the RCMP detachment in Parkland/Spruce Grove, approximately 20 minutes west of Edmonton.
Most of the conversation focused on protecting jobs at the RCMP and how members can play a role:
- Send this template letter to their MLA;
- Lobby their local MLA with a lobby kit provided by USJE;
- Participate in the Alberta Next Panel and survey; and or
- Share their story to USJE’s National RCMP Campaign: ServingTogether.ca
USJE would like to thank Lynn Janzen for facilitating this meeting.
To begin the afternoon, the group met with two members who work at the Barrhead RCMP detachment. We would like to thank the two USJE members who were on site for their heartwarming welcome.
To conclude the day, the team made their way to the RCMP detachment in Athabasca. Four members were present on site and participated in a dynamic conversation about union rights and how we can work together to protect jobs at the RCMP.
During all visits, the leadership team promoted the Albertans For RCMP and Serving Together campaigns. Both were received positively by the members in attendance.
