On May 14, RVP Kirsty Havard visited members at Fraser Valley Institution and the Regional Supply Depot (RSD) in Abbotsford, BC.
At Fraser Valley, RVP Havard spoke directly to members at a pizza lunch provided by Local 20015. Discussions focused on current Workforce Adjustment (WFA) concerns within CSC, including the rescinding of teachers’ WFA notices and the ongoing concerns from Heating Plant members regarding the proposed Guaranteed Reasonable Job Offer (GRJO). While salary protection has been offered, members continue to raise legitimate concerns about the loss of evening and weekend premiums, shift work, and the overall impact on their working conditions and income.
At the RSD, members recently received positive news following strong advocacy by USJE. The union raised significant concerns about changes to the operational and financial impacts of moving services directly to institutions. The employer’s attempt to standardize all regions failed to recognize the unique operational realities in our region. Through continued advocacy, USJE was successful in protecting members’ employment and maintaining operations at the RSD.
Thank you to all the members who took the time to speak with RVP Havard and share their concerns and perspectives. Union solidarity and member engagement continue to make a difference.
