Tracking and challenging USJE membership job loss

In Budget 2023, the Government of Canada committed to reducing spending by $14.1 billion over the next five years, starting in 2023-24, and by $4.1 billion annually after that.

USJE is working closely with PSAC and other Components to monitor, challenge, and report any job losses of members. If you have aware of or have witnessed job loss in your workplace, we ask a member of your local executive to fill out this form.

We also want to remind our members who may be facing job loss to exercise their rights under WFA (if applicable) and their respective collective agreement. For more information, visit PSAC’s website.

Job loss results in a significant increase in workload for those who are still standing. Now, more than ever, it is important for all members to be vigilant of the changes in their workload:

(1) keep a list of your priorities/duties;

(2) monitor for any uptick in such priorities/duties;

(3) be mindful of new priorities/duties that are being added to your workload;

(4) proactively seek to meet with your manager/supervisor to outline the evolution of your workload and ask that they (on behalf of the Employer) prioritize your duties;

(5) confirm your employer’s prioritization in writing; and

(6) keep a written record of any such discussions with your manager/supervisor.
