USGE President to tour Edmonton Max in wake of disturbing reports of bullying and sexual harassment

USGE President, Stan Stapleton, along with Nancy Peckford (USGE’s Director of Policy, Projects and Media Relations), and Zef Ordman (USGE Regional Vice President) will travel to Edmonton on December 6th, 7th and 8th (a.m.) to meet with USGE members about disturbing reports of sexual harassment and bullying at the maximum-security Edmonton Institution.

USGE is very concerned about the health and well-being of USGE members who work in this institution. Troubling reports of potential misconduct by Correctional Officers at the Edmonton max have been raised by members and in recent media reports.

Mr Stapleton and Ms Peckford will be speaking to as many members as possible next week in order to determine the type and level of impact this behavior has had on USGE members. A statement from Mr. Stapleton will be published after these consultations have been completed, and after Mr. Stapleton has been able to present his findings to Don Head, the Commissioner of the Correctional Services of Canada.

If you are a member and would like to speak confidentially with Mr Stapleton or Ms. Peckford while they are in Edmonton, please contact Richard Girard 613-327-0053 (girardr@psac-afpc.com) who will also be in Edmonton, or Bethany Sutton 613-875-2909 (suttonb@psac-afpc.com).
