On September 18, USJE Regional Vice Presidents led mobilization actions at nine sites across Canada to share information about the federal government’s fiscal plan to cut spending over the next five years.
Representatives from PSAC, fellow Components, provincial Federations of Labour, and some NDP candidates stood in solidarity with USJE during the info pickets.
The mobilization actions took place at:
- Stony Mountain Institution
- Winnipeg Parole
- Edmonton Urban Parole
- Calgary Urban Parole
- Saskatchewan Penitentiary
- MP Dominic Leblanc’s Constituency office in Shediac, NB
- Mission Institution
- Cowansville Institution
- RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa
The Government of Canada has committed to reducing spending by approximately $14.1 billion over five years, which will lead to job cuts, increased workloads, and will put public safety at risk. USJE is asking members to be vigilant in reporting any job cuts or increased workloads to RVPs so we can protect both our members’ jobs and the safety of Canadians.
