USJE Local President meets with Abbotsford MP about Presumptive Injury, federal cuts

Local President Alan Otrosina (Local 20141—Ferndale Penitentiary) met with Member of Parliament Brad Vis (Mission-Matsqui-Abbotsford) on November 12.

President Otrosina discussed the role of USJE and, in particular, our Presumptive Injury campaign.  Mr. Otrosina also addressed the federal government’s looming cuts to the public service workforce with MP Vis and his community liaison, Mike Bjorndal.

With his many familial ties to the public service and the federal Correctional Service, MP Vis recognized the importance of organized labour in Canada’s growing economy, and impressed President Otrosina with such an open and frank discussion.

MP Vis also expressed his support for USJE’s Presumptive Injury campaign—including the proposed changes to the federal Government Employees Compensation Act—and committed to sending a summary of the meeting to MP Kyle Seeback, Shadow Minister for Labour.
