USJE organizes Canada-wide day of mobilization against budget cuts

On June 12, USJE members across Canada participated in several planned mobilization events which highlighted the concerns that USJE members have in relation to current and future budget cuts across departments and the impact they will have on public safety.

These events were organized in Agassiz, BC; Saskatoon, SK; Stony Mountain, MB; Kingston, ON; and Quebec City, QC.

The Government of Canada has committed to reducing spending by approximately $14.1 billion over the next five years. That means job cuts, increased workloads and putting public safety at risk. USJE condemns these cuts and stands with our members who work tirelessly to keep Canadians safe.

On this date, National President David Neufeld and National Vice-President Lynette Robinson were also on-site at a lunch time event scheduled for L Division Headquarters in Charlottetown, PEI. This event encouraged members to come out and show their support for USJE’s RCMP Campaign. USJE RVPs Laurie Ann Wesselby (CSC Atlantic) and Carol Osborne (CSC Community – Parole Board of Canada – East) along with members of USJE’s Communications team were present to support the event.

National President Neufeld and National Vice-President Robinson were in PEI with members of the USJE Communications team to assist the ongoing efforts in collecting and sharing our members’ stories as part of USJE’s RCMP Campaign.

The visit to PEI included site tours of the L Division Headquarters and a new, two-month-old detachment in Cornwall. The team spoke with members working in a wide variety of roles including information management, fitness, ORMS, detachment services, and body-worn cameras. These USJE members are crucial to public safety, in their roles at work and within their local communities.

The USJE Communications team interviewed more than ten members at both sites for the RCMP campaign.

USJE thanks Local 90053 President Michael Thompson for putting together the seamless tour of PEI site visits, and Commanding Officer Kevin Lewis, Inspector Shaun Coady and the rest of the leadership team for meeting with President Neufeld and Vice-President Robinson during their visit to Charlottetown.
