May 14th – National Vice-president Lynette Robinson travelled to St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador to attend the initial day of training for DSA’s along with REVP Chris Di Liberatore for PSAC Atlantic.
This day of training was the direct result of a previous visit by Vice-president Robinson to Newfoundland in November 2022. This meeting happened at the instigation of USJE members Danielle Preston and Tasha Whyatt and resulted in a series of impressive commitments from B-Division CO, Assistant Commissioner Jennifer Ebert. These commitments were all based on the recommendations put forward in the DSA Report issued by Dr Rose Ricciardelli from Memorial University on behalf of USJE. This report identified several alarming conditions inherent to the role of DSA’s that were detrimental to mental health.
DSA’s from across Newfoundland and Labrador were invited to participate in this day of brand-new training aiming to improve workplace conditions and maximize mental health. Vice-President Robinson had the opportunity to address the members who participated and to thank them for availing themselves of this essential day of training.
Vice-president Robinson was pleased to witness the implementation of these commitments. She extends her gratitude to RCMP Division-B Officers for their engagement in constructive dialogue with the union and wishes to encourage all RCMP Divisions across Canada to follow the excellent precedent established by Newfoundland and Labrador.
