National Local Presidents’ Meeting recap

USJE held our National Local Presidents’ Meeting (NLPM) on June 7-8 in Ottawa. Over 140 delegates from across the country joined in person for two packed days of learning and collaboration, as well as an incredible march and rally that was covered on multiple news outlets.

Parole Officer Roundtable with Public Safety Minister

On June 8, USJE convened a roundtable meeting between 16 federal Parole Officers and Canada’s Public Safety Minister, the Hon. Marco Mendicino.

The meeting focused on the findings of our recent report on the high levels of occupational stress injury among federal Parole Officers. USJE also highlighted some of the unique opportunities and major challenges in the federal correctional system when it comes to the effective rehabilitation and re-integration of federal offenders.

Still Thirsty for Justice 

Despite repeated promises dating back to 2015 from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to end long-term water advisories by 2021, the government has failed to meet the deadline, and many First Nations continue to have unreliable access to clean, safe water.

In collaboration with Indigenous communities and in the spirit of reconciliation, PSAC is launching their second campaign to demand safe, clean, water for all.
