Rain or shine, coast to coast to coast: Across the country today, USJE held info pickets opposing Treasury Board’s new mandate requiring workers report to the office three days per week.
Final Day of Alberta RCMP Tour Includes Maskwacis and K Division HQ Site Visits
On May 9, National President David Neufeld, RVP Valda Behrens and members of the USJE Communications team had the privilege of wrapping up their Alberta RCMP tour with visits to Maskwacis RCMP detachment and K Division Headquarters in Edmonton.
USJE visits RCMP Police Dog Training Centre and Sylvan Lake Detachment
Continuing their cross-country tour to meet USJE members working for the RCMP, National President David Neufeld, RVP Valda Behrens and the USJE Communications team visited the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail and the Sylvan Lake detachment on May 8.

On May 7, National President David Neufeld, RVP Valda Behrens and members of the USJE Communications Team took part in a southern Alberta site visit tour.
MPs Ferreri and Bezan tour Osborne Community Correctional Centre with President Neufeld and RVP Sandelli
Parole Officer, Lesley Thibault and Reintegration Officer, Max Becker-Golden, whom both work at the CCC, were gracious enough to volunteer their time to lead a tour and answer questions. As part of ensuring an understanding of the reintegration process, the MP’s were provided with an overview of the federal system and how offenders move through their terms of incarceration, being given opportunities to engage with programs and services in preparation for their eventual supervised release in the community.

USJE thanks to all the members who took the time to chat with us about their work, both informally during the tours and in interviews for the national RCMP Campaign. The USJE Communications team conducted more than 20 interviews over the course of the two days!
Take Action – Treasury Board Directive on Hybrid Work
USJE is urging its members to immediately reach out to the President of the Treasury Board, Minister Anita Anand, to express their opposition to a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
RVP Surette Tours Regional Offices in Western Canada
RVP JP Surette visited USJE members in regional offices in Vancouver, Burnaby and Edmonton. Both the Courts Administration Service (CAS) and the Department of Public Safety have regional offices across Canada that are too small to constitute separate local unions. Each office has about 15 staff.
Former National President Awarded Honourary Membership
John Edmunds was awarded a USJE Honourary Membership during the recent National Executive Meeting held in Ottawa. John Edmunds’ history in USJE (formerly USGE) dates back to 1993. He held the positions of Section President, Local President, Regional Vice-President, National Vice President and the National President of USGE. John served 3 full terms as the USGE National President from 2005 to 2014.
