Regional Vice-President Jeff Sandelli met with New Democrat MP Leah Gazan in Winnipeg. Top of the discussion was the government’s current federal framework to reduce recidivism and the experience of our members in supporting reintegration and rehabilitation.

October 12th, 2022 – RVP Carol Osbourne discussed the Ricciardelli report on the mental health of parole officers with Member of Parliament Wayne Long in his constituency office in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Addressing mental health and improved safety measures in L Division
National Vice-President Lynette Robinson and three Islander DSAs met with Chief Superintendent Derek Santosuosso at the RCMP HQ in Charlottetown on September 16th. They discussed several important matters with Santosuosso, including appropriate onboarding training, mental health awareness and improved safety conditions.
Mobilizing for bargaining at BC’s Mountain and Kent Institutions
USJE and PSAC held a mobilization event for members at BC’s Mountain and Kent Institutions on September 28. Organized by PSAC East Fraser Valley Area Council, the event was an opportunity to discuss bargaining strategies and issues that impact our members.

USJE supports PEI in wake of Hurricane Fiona
During USJE’s September National Executive meeting, Executive members agreed unanimously to donate $10,000 to the Prince Edward Island Red Cross. These monies will be used to provide support to those who have been recently devasted by Hurricane Fiona.
Member Nicole Akhenak discusses Presumptive Injury concerns with Edmonton MLA
USJE member Nicole Akhenak met with Edmonton MLA Kaycee Madu on September 10. She approached the conservative MLA with a copy of the Presumptive Injury report. Nicole reminded the elected official that provincial legislation is too restrictive and fails to cover many of our USJE members.
