Last week, Premier Danielle Smith announced in her mandate letters to cabinet members that she is likely forging ahead with the establishment of a provincial police force. During her leadership campaign, Smith endorsed her predecessor’s preoccupation with having a “made-in-Alberta” police force to respond to rural and urban crime.

As USJE has discovered in its ongoing meetings with MPs, the topic of PSP mental wellness is not of bureaucratic debate, but rather a topic of interest across party lines, which was evident at the CIPSRT event with 26 MPs in attendance from across all Federal parties.
LEAN type management and you!
USJE wishes to identify similarities between CPORF and LEAN management methods. USJE condemns vigorously and opposes LEAN type management in the workplace. USJE therefore wishes to ensure that no resource allocation is akin to this type of management.
It’s Scholarship Time at USJE!
If you are a USJE member in post-secondary studies or have a child, spouse, partner, or dependent going to college or university, USJE is offering a total of six scholarships this year. The deadline for all scholarships is Tuesday, February 1, 2023.

Reminder for Treasury Board members: Moratorium lifted on automatic leave cash-out
Please be advised that the pay out of excess compensatory/ lieu/ travel leave banks as of September 30 will be paid on the pay of November 9 and will be identifiable on your pay stud under M40. However, CSC has also discovered that in some cases, the most current salary rate was not used in the calculation and the amounts to be paid represent an underpayment to the affected employees.

The constitutional right of Ontario workers to free collective bargaining is under attack. If the Ford government can use the notwithstanding clause to simply impose a contract on them, then all workers in Ontario can have their bargaining rights taken away.
CSC Evaluation Division to review operational model at Joyceville Institution this fall
After months of continued pressure from USJE and frontline staff at Joyceville Institution, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) signalled in October that their Evaluation Division is conducting a special study of the operational model at the Joyceville Assessment Unit (JAU) to better understand how the model functions and its results.
