Last Saturday, April 29, USGE members participated in the Phoenix mobilization day. They visited Liberal MPs from all regions of Quebec and demonstrations took place in nine different cities across the province.

Reimbursement available to those who needed tax advice due to Phoenix
Current and former employees who encountered pay issues related to the Phoenix pay system and who required the assistance of an accountant or another qualified tax professional may seek a reimbursement for tax advisory services in relation to their 2016 or 2017 income taxes.
May Day 2017: Manitoban USGE members rally at legislature in support of workers
Around 200 Winnipeggers marched and rallied on Monday at an annual event to celebrate the working class. Starting at 6 p.m., supporters marched to the Manitoba Legislature as part of May Day, an international event each May 1 in support of workers’ rights. This year’s event was hosted by the Winnipeg Labour Council and Mayworks.
National Day of Mourning
The National Day of Mourning, held on April 28, has been established to remember those who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness on the job. It also recognizes those who have worked tirelessly to prevent exposures, injuries and fatalities on the job and to celebrate their victories.
Victory! PSAC gets pay increases for pay-matched RCMP Civilian members
Shortly after PSAC National President Robyn Benson sent a letter to Minister Scott Brison, President of Treasury Board, asking about fair treatment of RCMP civilian members, we received Treasury Board’s written commitment to provide pay-matched civilian members with the pay increases recently negotiated by their comparators in the core public administration.

PSAC President Robyn Benson calls for fair treatment of CMs from Treasury Board
Robyn Benson, National President of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), on behalf of PSAC and its component, the Union of Solicitor General Employees (USGE), sent a letter to the President of the Treasury Board, Minister Scott Brison, to raise concerns regarding fair treatment for the RCMP civilian members who will become part of the federal public service.

Why are Civilian Members of the RCMP not receiving a salary increase?
On April 5, 2017, the RCMP Commissioner broadcast information confirming a Treasury Board approved pay package that will be provided only to regular members of the RCMP, and not to civilian members. It is PSAC/USGE’s position that RCMP civilian members should also receive their long expected pay package, without delay, and that the rationale that has been provided by the employer for withholding it is not defensible.
